Areté’s Craig Olson teaches the SPIE short course, Practical Optical System Design and Engineering, which covers a broad range of topics essential for engineers and managers working with complex optical systems. The course provides a practical foundation in first-order and ideal optics, the optical design process, pupils and stops, optical glass, various types of lenses and optical systems, image quality and performance, aberrations, tolerancing, optomechanics, radiometry, stray light, fabrication and testing, infrared systems, and laser optics.
Originally launched in 1978, it is one of SPIE’s longest running and most popular courses, consistently selling out. Craig has been teaching it since 2018 and is honored to keep it relevant and valuable for the next generation of optical professionals.
