Mr. Smith is currently the President of Riptide Autonomous Solutions, a leader in Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) design and manufacturing. Previously, he led the business growth strategy, capture management, partnering initiatives, and product expansion at Bluefin Robotics, now General Dynamics Mission Systems. Smith brings to the board over 25 years of experience working product development for the DoD from large companies to small startups demonstrating the ability to standup rapid prototyping and production lines. His expertise spans undersea technology development, manufacturing and management. He recently chaired a broad industry team for PMS 403 (now PMS 406) to study the supporting technology areas for Unmanned Maritime Vehicles in support of planned update for the UUV Master Plan.
Mr. Smith holds engineering degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), and an MBA from the Lally School of Management at RPI. Over the past several years, Mr. Smith has also been selected as a subject matter expert to participate in numerous war games and study panels focused on the future of undersea warfare for Commander, Submarine Forces (COMSUBFOR) and the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). Mr. Smith also holds patents in robotics, electro-optical systems, rapid prototyping, subsea battery safety systems, biomedical devices, and in a counter-sniper system, with additional patents pending.
